
Mr. Hernandez is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Asia Pacific for Chartis. He is responsible for the oversight of all subsidiaries and related companies of Chartis in the Far East and Asia Pacific regions, including AIU Insurance Company, American Home Assurance Company, JI Accident & Fire Insurance Co., Ltd., Fuji Fire and Marine Insurance Co., Ltd. and Chartis Korea. He also serves in the Board of Directors of AIU Insurance Company of New York, Fuji Fire and Marine Insurance Company Ltd. and JI Accident & Fire Insurance Company Ltd.
Prior to this position, Mr. Hernandez was President of AIU Accident & Health Division based in New York, Chairman of AIG Travel Inc. and Senior Executive Vice President as a member of AIU Insurance Company Board of Directors.
He began his insurance career in 1987 and later joined American International Group in 1994 as Head of Commercial Lines and Distribution in AIG Mexico. In July 1997, Mr. Hernandez was appointed Vice President of the AIU Latin American Division based in New York. In July 1998, he was appointed General Manager of AIG Mexico and relocated back to Mexico City.
Mr. Hernandez joined the AIU Accident & Health Division in December 2000 as Senior Vice President and was responsible for all Accident & Health field operations outside of the Far East. In August 2003, Mr. Hernandez was assigned to the AIG Companies in Japan and Korea, based in Tokyo, in the position of Regional Vice President, General Insurance to oversee the Accident & Heath operations in the Far East region. During his tenure, he held a number of positions including Executive Vice President of AIU Japan, the largest foreign general insurance company in Japan, and served on the Board of Directors of JI Accident and Fire Insurance Co. Ltd.
Prior to joining AIG in 1994, Mr. Hernandez held a number of management, marketing and claims positions in various insurance entities in New York and Puerto Rico.
He is a graduate of Bentley College in Waltham, MA. In addition, he holds a Master in Business Administration from The College of Insurance in New York.
